Learning difficulties can be challenging for any child, their parents, and teachers. It is important to establish the domains in which the child is experiencing difficulties. It is also common for social anxieties to present as learning disabilities, as the child may be withdrawn and consequently misunderstood. Our psychoeducational assessments include an initial interview with you and your child to begin to better understand your child's experiences. This is a crucial component of the psychoeducational assessment to ensure we move forward with the best information.

The purpose of the assessment is to help provide an objective understanding of what your child needs, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and what type of intervention is necessary, with the intention of providing insight, information, and a way forward.

Consider an assessment if:

  • If there is a disparity between your child's school performance, and performance in other areas.

  • Your child avoids school or is skipping classes constantly.

  • Your child is behind in their schoolwork or having difficulty keeping up.

  • Your child's language skills are behind other skills such as problem solving or motor skills.

  • Your child feels anxious or is very shy.

We utilize industry-standard tests such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV), and the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III), which are designed to screen and assess for a variety of issues, including learning disabilities, developmental delays, and processing disorders. With these board-recognized tests, we can help paint a comprehensive picture of your child's strengths and areas for improvement, and use the results to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to assist your child to achieve their optimal level of academic functioning.

Upon completion of the assessments, we provide a report advocating on your child's behalf to the respective school board. The results we provide include specific recommendations to optimize the learning conditions for your child.

Cost of Psychoeducational Assessment:  $1800.00-$2400.00 (dependent on specific tests needed)
