Develop a Positive Mindset Through Non-talk Brainspotting Therapy

Our brain is a complex organ that does everything to support your body to run efficiently. Sometimes talk therapy does not offer the brain new paths to healing. Therefore, other alternative therapies can be more productive. Brainspotting and EMDR are brain-based therapies that are more efficient at targeting specific parts of the brain that the client identifies need healing. Both EMDR and brainspotting therapies are popular for treating trauma and addictive behaviors.

What to Expect from Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting therapy is another non-talk therapy that allows clients to process traumatic events in a secure and supportive environment with therapist care. The treatment works by finding “brainspots,” which are specific eye positions connected to the area of the brain where the memory is held. During the brainspotting session, the therapist helps the client identify the spot through formal exercises that use the client’s field of vision. The brainspot, traumatic event or memory is processed and released through time spent focusing on the spot, listening to bilateral music, and processing information, images, or emotions held in the brain.

Before BSP can be used, the client will complete formal testing and partake in psychotherapy to determine if this therapy is appropriate. The process for this generally follows these steps:

  1. Initial interview and brain assessment
  2. Psychotherapy – history, issue, and current state
  3. Process/debrief the therapeutic experience
