Brainspotting Therapists Who Help You Heal

The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

Develop a Positive Mindset Through Non-talk Brainspotting Therapy

Our brain is a complex organ that does everything to support your body to run efficiently. Sometimes talk therapy does not offer the brain new paths to healing. Therefore, other alternative therapies can be more productive. Brainspotting and EMDR are brain-based therapies that are more efficient at targeting specific parts of the brain that the client identifies needs healing. Both EMDR and brainspotting therapies are popular for treating trauma and addictive behaviours.

What to Expect from Brainspotting Therapy

Brainspotting therapy is another non-talk therapy that allows clients to process traumatic events in a secure and supportive environment with therapist care. The treatment works by finding “brainspots,” which are specific eye positions connected to the area of the brain where the memory is held. During the brainspotting session, the therapist helps the client identify the spot through formal exercises that use the client’s field of vision. The brainspot, traumatic event or memory is processed and released through time spent focusing on the spot, listening to bilateral music, and processing information, images, or emotions held in the brain.

Before BSP can be used, the client will complete formal testing and partake in psychotherapy to determine if this therapy is appropriate. The process for this generally follows these steps:

  1. Initial interview and brain assessment
  2. Psychotherapy – history, issue and current state
  3. Brainspotting sessions
  4. Process/debrief the therapeutic experience

FAQ

Brainspotting helps treat many issues, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-esteem, anger management, grief, ADHD, phobias, stressful events and sports performance. It can also create fresh perspectives, help with awakenings or “ah-hah” moments, and stimulate the creative process.

Brainspotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. It is particularly effective in trauma-based situations by identifying and healing underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression, and other behavioural conditions. It can also be used for performance and creativity enhancement. Brainspotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the brain’s deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts.

Clients often fall into two categories: the first being those who are seeking therapy for the first time. The second are people with previous therapy experience who are seeking a therapist with new techniques. With focus and precision, one can find the eye positions (Brainspots) where the trauma, anxiety, depression or behavioural problems are held in the brain. This allows the brain to process from the inside out and the bottom up.

Therapists continually learn and grow throughout their careers. Brainspotting allows therapists to expand their toolsets, further enabling them to upgrade what they are already doing and make a breakthrough into another level of performing and understanding the healing process.
